Finally Worn Out

When Xander finally got tired I was able to get some shots with him in focus. He was very comfortable on his new mommy, my sister who is 20 years younger than me.
Camera info: Nikon D200, 50mm 1.8 lens at f1.8 and 1/60th, ISO 400, cloudy whitebalance
Post processing: In ACR processed for a little more exposure, blacks and vibrance. In Photoshop, selected a portion of the neck and used the warp tool to shrink it in, cloned out distraction in background, selected yellow area in background and desaturated it some, Touch of Dark to darken neck area, Bring Out the Eyes, the Edge to sharpen

  1. I still like the "half of one eye shut" expression on the cat. There is a good diagonal. I also like hands. Next time you visit your sister think of the cat as a baby with new parents. Maybe you could get cat and hands.

There can't possibly be 20 years between the two of you; maybe eight or maybe nine but not 20.

  2. I hate to tell your sister this, but Xander is the star of this photo. His relaxed pose, the cock of his head and the front legs make sure that your eye moves to him.

Really fine composition and nice soft light on the two of them, but more importantly a good moment.

    Good work.

  3. Courtney has 5 kittens to adopt out from a rescue. Call if you have any extra good parents lying around (ie like your sister!. You have learned a good lesson in pet portraits...tiredness is good!!
