Goodbye 2010

Nikon D700, 70 - 200mm 2.8 lens at f4.8, 1/1500th, ISO 200

Shot in Galveston in October, off Harborside.  Norma, Steve and I went hoping to get a good shot for the Birds of a Feather assignment --- Norma got a gold!  I wanted to practice panning and shooting birds and they cooperated so wellThe pelicans were numerous and flew directly above me (no bombings thank goodness!) so low that I could not get all of their wings in the frame sometimes, and they flew all around looking back at me like the shot here, I guess trying to figure out what I was doing.

Baby J's First Christmas

This is my friend Mary's latest grandchild, 5 month old J.  I took photographs of him last July and entered one of his father holding him in BAPC's assignment of Sepia .
Five months later he is such a darling happy little boy, just starting to sit up on his own.  He was still a little wobbly so I brought an enamel washbasin and it was the perfect size for him and worked so well to give him a little support and something to hold on to.  Besides that, he enjoyed sitting in it.

But Diesel, their German Shepherd worked very well for some support too.

Summertime Blues

Taken back in August when I was looking for things to shoot for the Blue assignment . I was drawn to the lines of the tiny snail shell on an emerging Hosta bloom, taken in the evening.  I liked the soft tones of the color image but thought I would try a Cyanotone look so put it through Silver Efex.

Tis The Season

It was so much fun to photograph this sweet 20 month old girl.  She loved the antique wooden rocking chair I brought --- it was my son's and he loved it as a toddler too.  I think I know at least one present she will get this Christmas.  Her mom wanted photos for cards and also some Fall shots and I completely enjoyed the entire session.  I used just one speedlight bounced with an umbrella and really should have added a second light, so I learned some things too.

It Was Torture...

to photograph these puppies and not take them home.  So sweet and warm and soft, all they wanted was to be snuggled, it was so hard to put them down to photograph them.  These are the last 3 of 9 puppies that were not wanted by the Dachshund mother's family but I think they will be adopted very quickly from Dr. Pickle's clinic.  Whew, or I might not be able to resist them.

She Needs a Home

This sweet face belongs to another pit bull who was dumped at Friendswood's Animal Control.  If a Rescue group does not pull her from the shelter the only way she will leave is to go to the crematorium.  This breed has gotten an undeserved bad reputation and I believe they are not any more violent or aggressive than a Labrador Retriever that has been mistreated or trained to fight.  This dog is very calm, friendly, and sweet and she only has a few days before her time runs out.  Please share her photo and ask others to send it on also and maybe she will be a pit bull we can save.

Ready For My Closeup

This was not a set up shot, really!  This little stool is in my sister's kitchen and Lexi sits on it and waits for her dinner.   I grabbed my camera which already had the flash and diffuser attached and got a few frames off but was not able to get squarely in front of the stool so the perspective is a little off...but she is so cute, who cares?

I Shoot Cats Too

Besides her darling dog Shasta, my sister in California is also owned by 4 cats:

Boone, I think is her oldest cat.

 Desi, the only male.

 Lexi, very sweet and friendly.

Peanut...the look says it all.

I always thought cats would be harder to photograph than dogs, but that is not necessarily true.  In both species some individuals are more outgoing and quick to accept me and some are more shy and need time to get used to the camera...and some never get used to it.  What amazes me about cats is their wonderful whiskers and fantastic eyes.
